| Brazil show its face at BIO 2008 | |
Biominas pioneered as coordinator of the 1st Brazil Pavilion
For the first time, Brazil was represented at the Exhibition of the BIO Annual International Convention. The Brazil Pavilion was organized by Fundação Biominas, sponsored by the National Development Bank (BNDES) and the Ministry of Health, and supported by Merck Sharp & Dhome, Genzyme, INDI, SEBRAE-MG and Blausiegel. The Pavilion featured ten companies (Biocâncer, BIO-Manguinhos, Biomm, Farmacore, FK Biotecnologia, Genzyme do Brasil, Intrials, TissueBond, United Medical and Vallée) and had representatives from many Brazilian Institutions and the Government. In total, 84 people constituted the Brazilian Delegation, 2-times more than in 2007. According to the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the 2008 BIO International Convention gathered 20,108 industry leaders from 70 countries and 48 American states. The convention featured the largest gathering of biotech exhibitors in history, with more than 2,100 companies, 126 of which were new, and more than 208,000 sq. feet of exhibition space, the largest ever at the convention. This was a great opportunity for Brazil to show its face and promote our biotech sector worldwide. The BIO International Convention is the world’s largest annual event for the biotechnology industry. The 2008 Convention ran Tuesday, June 17 through Friday, June 21 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif. Next year’s event will be held May 18-21, 2009 in Atlanta, GA, and a three-times larger booth space for the Brazil Pavilion has already been purchased. Meet us at BIO 2009!
